US Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that US airlines employed 2% more workers in April compared to the same month last year. BTS said two network airlines, Alaska Airlines and United Airlines, decreased employment. Delta Air Lines reported 4.5% more workers in April 2011 than in April 2010. Continental Airlines, which now includes employees that formerly worked for Continental Micronesia, reported a 2.3% increase.

The Assn. of Flight Attendants won the right to represent United Continental Holdings' 25,000 flight attendants. It said 55% of those casting ballots in a representation election favored AFA, which has represented United Airlines' cabin crew, over the International Assn. of Machinists, which represented Continental Airlines' flight attendants. The US National Mediation Board must certify the results.

US Dept. of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics reported that US airlines collected almost $5.7 billion from baggage fees and reservation change fees in 2010. According to BTS, the airlines received $3.4 billion from baggage fees and $2.3 billion from reservation change fees in 2010. “These are the only fees paid by passengers that BTS can identify separately. All other fees paid by passengers are included in larger categories with other types of revenue,” said BTS.

ICAO adopted a code of conduct to oversee the collection, sharing and use of aviation safety information. "Transparency and sharing of safety information are fundamental to a safe air transportation system.
