United Continental Holdings started unveiling changes at Chicago O'Hare to "provide a more consistent travel experience for customers on United Airlines and Continental Airlines." Japan Airlines and American Airlines said they are engaging in "closer cooperation" on international cargo operations as part of their transpacific joint venture launched in April ( ATW Daily News, Jan. 12). The two carriers said they've begun using Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, New York JFK and Honolulu "as key transfer points for cargo traffic" in the US and similarly are using Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya as transfer points in Japan.

Amadeus won a contract from ANA Group to deploy the Amadeus Altea suite of customer solutions including flight reservations, inventory and departure control systems, across the airline’s global network. ANA is the first Japanese airline to choose Altea. "We are convinced that the Amadeus system will help us to expand our global marketing and improve productivity,” said ANA Executive VP Keisuke Okada. By outsourcing its passenger reservation system to Amadeus, ANA said it aims to reduce IT costs by ¥1 billion ($12.4 million) annually.
