EasyJet will set up a base at London Southend from April 2012 with three Airbus A319s operating some 70 flights per week to about 10 European destinations including Barcelona, Faro and Ibiza. The carrier signed a 10-year partnership agreement with SEN owner Stobart Group, which is building a new passenger terminal due to be opened in the fall. It also invested in a new control tower and a runway extension.
Flydubai added to its expanding network this week with the announcement of new flights to Dammam, KSA. With the new route - its 41st - flydubai enters the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, the most important oil producing region in the world and of substantial commercial and economic significance to international trade.
Air Berlin and British Airways reached a codeshare agreement. Beginning July 5, AB will place its code on BA flights from "various" German airports to London Heathrow, as well as BA flights from Frankfurt and Zurich to London City, and from Salzburg to London Gatwick. BA will place its code on AB flights from LGW to Nuremburg and from STN to Paderborn and Munster/Osnabruck. The cooperation agreement applies to flights to more than 40 European destinations served by the two airlines.
India's youngest and fastest growing airline, IndiGo, is set to soar into international skies after the successful completion of five years of domestic operations. IndiGo will operate its maiden international flight on 1st September, 2011 connecting New Delhi with Dubai.
