Canada’s Porter Airlines will add a second transcontinental route from Ottawa International Airport (YOW), flying from the Canadian capital to Edmonton International Airport (YEG).

The carrier will launch the route from Oct. 4 with an Embraer E195-E2 aircraft configured to carry 132 passengers. Porter is opening service between YOW and Vancouver International Airport from July 26. 

“The addition of the [YOW-YEG] route provides a higher level of connectivity across our network between Eastern and Western Canada,” Porter Chief Commercial Officer Kevin Jackson says in a statement.

Air Canada, Flair Airlines and WestJet already operate the YOW-YEG route. Porter, which is based at Toronto Billy Bishop Airport, began taking delivery of E195-E2s in December 2022, and the airline—formerly an all-De Havilland Dash 8-400 operator—continues to build a network with the aircraft, including a string of transcontinental routes.
