From The Archives: Aquanauts Perform NASA Biomedical Experiment

Female aquanauts are seen in our cover image, participating in the U.S. government's Tektite II project, performing biomedical experiments for NASA 50 ft. beneath the Caribbean Sea near St. John, Virgin Islands. 

NASA was using the program to study the behavior of small groups in the General Electric Tektite II habitat.

Data from the experiments would have been helpful to NASA in the selection of astronaut crews for future long-duration missions.
