Pem-Air Turbine Engine Services opened a new engine MRO facility on April 9 that will significantly increase its capacity and enable the company to cater to a wider range of aircraft engines.

The 80,000 ft.2 facility is located in Brooksville, Florida, approximately 50 mi. north of Tampa. Featuring more than 20 engine bays and the potential to accommodate up to 35 engine bays, depending on configuration, Pem-Air says the facility has seven times the capacity of its previous space.

Alongside the facility expansion, Pem-Air plans to roughly double its staff to 80 or more employees. It says its five-year plan from the start of the project—which first began in 2022—is to have around 120 employees total.

According to a spokesperson for Pem-Air, the facility expansion was driven by a range of factors, including cargo operator growth, delayed deliveries from OEMs on next-gen engine types—which increased utilization of current engine types, and what the company says is a lack of availability from major and traditional MROs that have been shedding capacity on legacy engine types.

The spokesperson adds: “Pem-Air had reached capacity in existing facilities and meeting increased demand from existing customers started to become a challenge. Plus, Pem-Air received more inquiries from customers for more intense repairs with larger work scopes that also required more capabilities.”

With the expanded capacity, Pem-Air says it will now cater to a wider range of aircraft engines, including the General Electric GE90 and Rolls-Royce Trent 800. It will continue to service a wide range of engine types, including CFM International CFM56, CF6 and CF34; Rolls-Royce RB211; and Pratt & Whitney V2500, PW2000, PW4000, JT9D, JT3D and TF33 engines.

Pem-Air holds FAA and European Union Aviation Safety Agency certifications for a range of engine services, including MRO and performance restoration, field support and on-wing testing. The company also offers aircraft storage, parking and disassembly services.
