SINGAPORE—Singapore Airshow organizers say the numbers of participants and attendees at this year's event have "nearly" returned to the record levels seen at the 2018 edition before the outbreak of COVID-19.

Strong interest in the Asia-Pacific market is indicated by three new country pavilions—from China, Czech Republic and South Korea—bringing the total to 16.

Organizer Experia estimates there will be more than 50,000 trade attendees across 1,000 participating companies, from 50 countries and regions.

While China’s Comac and AVIC are regulars at major air shows, that country's pavilion brings small to medium Chinese enterprises within the supply chain to Singapore.

“It's the first time we will be having China (pavilion). This is a positively encouraging early sign of seeing Chinese companies from the aerospace industry participates in economic activities,” says Cindy Koh, executive vice president of the Singapore Economic Development Board. She adds that the board will be in discussions with Comac's leadership and other exhibitors regarding future opportunities.

The air show also includes What’s Next@Singapore Airshow which aims support aerospace startups by giving these companies access to top aviation companies and executives. Forty-one companies will be showcasing solutions in areas such as air traffic management, digitalization and sustainability.
