Joramco has announced the expansion of Joramco Academy with the launch of a new maintenance training school in Ghana.

Following the agreement signed in June 2022 with African aviation services provider Aerojet Aviation, Joramco has established the Aerojet Aviation training academy at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

Last year, Joramco Academy gained European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 147 approval to provide maintenance training and examination. Earlier this year the company extended its EASA approval to include several additional courses, including B1 course “Aeroplanes Turbines”, B1 and B2 combined course “Aeroplanes Turbines & Avionics” and B2 course “Avionics.”

"This approval allows the academy to offer a wide range of aircraft maintenance courses and qualifications which are internationally recognized,” says Joramco CEO Fraser Currie.

“With this accreditation, Joramco Academy has expanded its operations by opening its first site outside of Jordan, while also exploring multiple other locations. This expansion further demonstrates our commitment to providing quality education and training in Jordan and beyond,” he adds.

Aerojet Aviation CEO Mazisi Parkes says the approval of Aerojet Training Academy in Accra as an EASA certified training facility represents a big shift for the region. He recognizes this as the first of many steps toward the company’s long-term vision for Africa.

“Until now, no opportunities have existed in our sub-region to get the type of certified training that is internationally accepted to high standards such as EASA. We are thrilled to be leading the way in opening new doors for youth on this continent,” says Parkes.

Aerojet focuses on addressing the lack of aircraft maintenance capabilities in Africa and it is working to build an MRO facility in Accra. The facility is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2024. It will offer services such as airframe and engine maintenance and overhaul, as well as cabin modifications and avionics.

“This is a critical milestone in our process, as the training academy is integral to launching our EASA Part 145 certified MRO facility at the Kotoka International Airport in Ghana,” says Parkes.
