Dassault Aviation is planning to open a center of excellence near India’s upcoming Noida Airport that will house maintenance training operations. The center will support Dassault’s planned MRO facility near the airport, which will offer maintenance and overhaul of Rafale and Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft.
Dassault submitted a proposal for the center of excellence to the Indian government, and this has now been passed to the state government and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), which is responsible for the construction of Noida International Airport. Dassault and YEIDA are in talks to assess land requirements for the center.
“The French firm [Dassault] will be allotted land under 1,365-hectare area earmarked for an MRO and aviation hub, which is part of the second phase of development of the airport,” says Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA and Noida International Airport Limited. Singh talks to establish the nearby MRO facility are still in the early stages.
Dassault plans to offer an aeronautical syllabus at the high school and polytechnic levels. It is collaborating with India’s ministries of skill development and defense to establish the training operations, which will include a three-year diploma course and an apprenticeship at its MRO facility. The course will be open to students immediately after they pass class tenth.
For students who wish to pursue aviation maintenance education after graduating from class twelfth, Dassault has proposed a Bachelor of Science course in aircraft maintenance and vector and avionics systems. Aspiring students can also opt for a shorter six-month course in aircraft maintenance.
The upcoming airport and Dassault’s MRO and training facilities are expected to boost the local economy by creating job opportunities and fostering the growth of the Indian aerospace industry.
