AFI KLM E&M Contracts APU Generator Support

Safran Electrical & Power has won a five-year deal consisting of a general term agreement plus a flight-hour-based contract to repair APU generators operated by an Asia-Pacific airline customer of AFI KLM E&M.

Earlier this year AFI KLM E&M contracted out other APU services to Lufthansa Technik, but in that case it was for the Honeywell HGT1700 APUs of Air France’s Airbus A350, equipment that is not within EPCOR’s capability list.

The Safran contract covers APU generators for the A320 and A320neo.

The work covers more than 300 A320 and A320neo aircraft. Only China Eastern currently operates that many A320 aircraft in Asia, although Indian carrier IndiGo will also exceed that number as its backlog is delivered.

Indeed, the Indian carrier is probably at the root of the deal; in 2021 AFI KLM E&M extended a component support deal with IndiGo as part of a contract covering repairs and pool access for more than 350 aircraft.

AFI KLM E&M said the objective of its Safran contract is to provide quick turnaround times to support its operations “and those of its subsidiary.”

Safran Electrical & Power will repair the APU generators at its Pitstone, UK facility.
