Magnetic Group’s engine division has entered a new partnership with GE Aerospace to offer on-wing maintenance for two CFM56 engine variants.

The agreement between Magnetic Engines and the OEM covers CFM56-5B and -7B engines and was originally signed in September 2022 before being announced on Dec. 8.

While Magnetic holds engine MRO capabilities, it is the first instance of the MRO provider performing on-wing services, which enables it to conduct repairs at customer locations worldwide.

Magnetic confirmed to Aviation Week that it plans to commence services in either Q1 or Q2 of 2023, depending on GE’s needs.

For its off-wing engine services, Magnetic says demand has been strong at its engine shop in Tallinn and it expects this to continue into next year.

Given the continued demand for engine services, Magnetic says slot availability in the Estonian capital for the first quarter of next year is almost full.

The company launched its new engine division in January 2021 with Civil Aviation Administration of China, European Union Aviation Safety Agency and FAA approvals for modular maintenance of CFM56-3, -5B and -7B engines. Capabilities included fan modules, low-pressure turbine major modules and core hot section modules, which it acquired during 2020.

GE Aerospace, which rebranded from GE Aviation earlier this year, is a 50-50 partner in the CFM56 program with Safran Aircraft Engines.
