Lufthansa Technik Malta In Pictures

1-Capabilities

LHT Malta holds capabilities for the Airbus A320 family (pictured), the A330 and A340 widebodies and the Boeing 737 at its site close to Malta International Airport.  

2-Base Maintenance

The Malta operation provides line and base maintenance services. For base maintenance, an estimated 750,000 man hours are undertaken per annum on work such as D-checks for an Airbus A330 (pictured).

3-Retrofitting Aircraft With WiFi

LHT Malta is equipping around 20 aircraft per month with Wi-Fi and hopes to have all narrowbodies in the Lufthansa fleet connected by this year. It is installing Honeywell-developed JetWave GX satellite communication systems on the aircraft, which then run from Inmarsat’s Aviation Global Network system.

4-Enabling A Signal

Up to four routers are installed across different points of a narrowbody jet like the Airbus A321, with each one able to connect around 50 passengers per box.

5-A Quick Turnaround

The average time taken to complete a D-Check on an Airbus A330 aircraft is around 30 days, according to Lufthansa Technik Malta.

6-Protected By A Radome

One of the antenna boxes is installed on top of an aircraft underneath a radome (pictured) made from fibreglass.

7-Seat Repair

During a heavy maintenance check, Lufthansa Technik Malta will take the seats out and place them in a specialist seat workshop located at the facility.

8-All Classes Covered

Seats are stripped down before the covers are replaced on models used in economy, premium economy and business class.

9-Replacing Cabin Monuments

Aircraft cabin monuments are also modified at the interiors shop. Part of the process includes replacing on-board signage (pictured). 

Lufthansa Technik Malta has operated since 2002 when it was founded by Lufthana Technik, which holds a 92% share with local carrier Air Malta taking the remaining 8%.

Connecting Southern Europe with Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, LHT Malta services a number of Airbus and Boeing aircraft types for the Lufthansa Group and third-party carriers.
