Executives from Qatar Airways, Satys Aerospace and Barzan Holdings sign an agreement at the Paris Air Show.
Qatar Airways has signed two new agreements to establish new aftermarket services facilities in Qatar for aircraft painting and inflight entertainment (IFE) system maintenance.
During the Paris Air Show, the airline signed a strategic agreement with painting specialist Satys Aerospace and defense firm Barzan Holdings to establish a widebody aircraft painting facility at Dukhan Air Base in Qatar. The facility will include two narrowbody paint hangars that can accommodate commercial, military and VIP aircraft, as well as a multipurpose hangar for light maintenance activities.
Qatar Airways says the facility will offer access to specialized painting services for airline operators across the Middle East and Indian subcontinent, eliminating the need to ferry aircraft overseas for livery changes or repainting.
According to the companies, it will also be Satys’ first widebody painting facility in the Middle East region that includes next-generation digital technology such as automatic robotic painting.
Elsewhere in the region, Satys opened its first paint hangar in Dubai in March, which offers finishing and painting services for commercial aircraft and business jets.
Qatar Airways also signed a memorandum of agreement with Thales at the Paris Air Show covering future IFE innovation. The companies plan to develop a dedicated IFE service and maintenance center in Doha to support the airline’s fleet expansion. The center will provide maintenance, repairs, technical assistance and spares distribution for Thales’ range of IFE products.
Qatar Airways utilizes Thales IFE equipment on its Boeing 787-8, Airbus A350 and A380 aircraft. The airline’s new A321neo fleet will be equipped with Thales’ FlytEDGE cloud-native IFE product.
