SINGAPORE—As part of its plan to double its maintenance capacity, Asia Digital Engineering started constructing a third hangar at Kuala Lumpur International Airport that will accommodate four narrowbody aircraft or one widebody and one narrowbody aircraft.
It will complement Hangar B, the 14-line hangar that opened in Sepang, Malaysia, in September 2024.
ADE expects to finish building the new hangar by the fourth quarter of 2027. After doing so, it will operate 20 lines of maintenance.
The total development area of 6.6 acres includes the hangar, apron and taxiway. It will also include an employee recreational facility, including a gym. Hangars B and C both feature a roof truss system, but the latter features a “trapezoidal-shaped design, which was developed with efficiency in mind” and to optimize the space, according to a company spokesperson.
ADE says Hangar C will also support its deployment of its digital tools, including Elevade, the platform that connects fleet management, aircraft health management and workforce.
ADE has not disclosed the cost of the new hangar.
ADE CEO Mahesh Kumar told Aviation Week during MRO Asia-Pacific on Sept. 22 that the company is also considering expanding its component shops—including for composites, sheet metal, galleys and cabin.
Kumar also said ADE is considering adding 20 more lines—so doubling its capacity—and plans to make a decision about where that capacity will be in the first quarter of 2027.
