The SAE S-18 Aircraft & Systems Development and Safety Assessment committee was tasked by the FAA to capture consensus industry practices for aircraft system development and safety assessment. SAE released ARP4754 for system development and ARP4761 for system safety assessment in 1996. These guidelines underwent significant revisions in 2024, with supplementary Aerospace Information Reports (AIRs) released this year to reflect evolving industry best practices.
