2020年の前半は民間航空業界にとって悲劇的な時期となったが、6月以降は徐々に稼働機が増加するようになり、業界に希望の光を与えている。 

昨年発生した記録的な旅行需要の低下は退役機の急増をもたらしたが、その反対の事象も観測された。2020年の退役機数は3月の137機がピークで、以降は航空会社が機材の売却を延期したため、毎月の退役機数は例年を下回った。 

このような傾向は、4月以降に航空各社がこれまでよりはるかに多くの運航を予定していることと合わせ、マーケットの改善を示している。しかし、まだ本格的な回復と呼べるものではない。

The first half of 2020 will go down as a terrible time for the commercial aviation industry. Since June, the active aircraft fleet has been increasing gradually, providing a glimmer of hope for the industry. 

 

While the record-setting decline in flying last year could have prompted a spike in aircraft retirements, the opposite occurred. Aside from a peak of 137 retirements in March 2020, monthly retirements were generally lower in 2020 as operators deferred fleet recapitalization. 

All these, along with airlines scheduling flights through this April at much higher rates, shows improvement in the market but a fully-fledged recovery has yet to occur.
