LE BOURGET—Israel says it used the naval Barak Magen and the long-range air defense interceptor during its conflict with Iran, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.
The equipment, also known as the Barak MX, is installed on the INS Sa’ar 6 missile boat that has been used to help counter Iranian missile and drone strikes on Israel since the IDF launched the attack on Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure June 13.
The Israeli Navy has intercepted about 25 uncrewed air systems, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and anti-ship missiles, the IDF said June 16. It intercepted eight drones late in the evening of June 15 and in the early hours of the morning June 16.
Israel overnight also used the Rafael David's Sling system to intercept, for the first time, a ballistic missile fired by Iran.
Israel said overnight it struck more than 120 Iranian surface-to-surface missile launchers or, what it said, was a third of Iran’s inventory.
The IDF also said that its ability to operate with relative immunity over Iran is allowing the air force to push operations eastward.
