From The Archives: Modernizing Strategic Forces
In the issue dated June 16, 1980, we published an article about modernizing strategic forces. Our writer, Clarence A. Robinson, Jr., said that the U.S. was moving into an era of growing Soviet Union predominance in strategic nuclear weapons.
"In an effort to restore parity for the U.S., the Defense Department plans to invest approximately $100 billion during the next five years to develop and buy strategic nuclear weapons,” Robinson wrote.
