LE BOURGET—General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Inc. (GA-ASI) has kicked off the international sales campaign for the YFQ-42 collaborative combat aircraft (CCA) at the Paris Air Show, the company's CEO told Aviation Week on June 17.
A full-scale model of the U.S. Air Force CCA prototype, which is optimized for air-to-air missions, was displayed at the GA-ASI booth in Hall 3.
“We have the platform here to bring in more interest. We expect international exports and are being encouraged to make that happen, to the point of working together with the other nations on what missions are important to them,” CEO David Alexander said.
“So now we're talking about adding new mission capabilities that are beyond what the current Increment 1 is,” he said.
Alexander expects the U.S. government to approve export licenses on marketing data in the next days or weeks, allowing the company to brief potential international buyers about the aircraft and its capabilities.
Some export customers may prefer a CCA designed for an air-to-ground mission, Alexander said. The YFQ-42 can be reconfigured by swapping out the sensor in the nose radome and installing different munitions, he added.
