PARIS—Edge Group subsidiary Powertech launched serial production a month ago of the PJ120, the UAE-based company’s first move into jet propulsion, Powertech CEO Marian Lubieniecki tells Aviation Week.
Powertech displayed one of the first serial production models of the 1,200-n thrust (270 lb. thrust) turbojet for small cruise missiles and uncrewed air vehicles here at the Eurosatory trade show.
The start of production came less than 18 months after the Edge Group formed the Powertech subsidiary as part of a wider push to establish production of key defense technologies on UAE soil. The company last displayed the first prototype engine in November at the Dubai Airshow.
The turbojet will power the Dark Wing precision guided munition and the WSM cruise missile, which are both produced by Edge, Lubieniecki said.
The company also is seeking foreign orders for the turbojet. A Polish delegation, for example, visited Powertech’s UAE headquarters last month to discuss the company’s propulsion offerings, according to the company’s LinkedIn site.
“We have pretty big international interest,” Lubieniecki said.
