Capstone
LONDON–UK uncrewed rotorcraft developer Certo Aerospace has raised £5 million ($6.6 million) to accelerate development of its Capstone co-axial autonomous helicopter.
The Somerset, England-based startup raised the money through equity placement in conjunction with new and existing shareholders, the airframer said on Oct. 1.
Certo’s Capstone has already been demonstrated to the UK defense ministry and U.S. Department of Defense as a potential logistics platform, and the company is working with BAE Systems on a derivative that could operate alongside the British Army’s Apache attack helicopters through Project Nyx. With the funding, the company plans to expand its design, test and manufacturing operations and work on a new heavy-fuel engine for the platform.
Justin Tooth, Certo’s CEO, said the funding raise had been supported by a “substantial growth” in the company’s capabilities and intellectual property. The support would deliver “a whole new class of airfield-independent aviation technology,” he said.
