Duncan Aviation has released a book entitled Certification Straight Talk Book, aimed at making the cumbersome process of certifying work on an aircraft a little clearer and less frustrating for operators, it says. Duncan’s engineering, certification and installation teams authored the free book, which looks at the process of certifying and documenting repairs and modifications. It also includes a section on importing and exporting aircraft and explains the process of obtaining a Supplemental Type Certificate.

Daher announced that 208 Aviation, a private company, has been appointed as a TBM Service Center for the Southern Africa region. 208 Aviation, based at Wonderboom Airport north of Pretoria, South Africa, provides maintenance and support for new and used turbine aircraft. It holds Civil Aviation Authority approvals for maintenance in South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It also operates in Botswana, Lesotho, Nigeria and Switzerland.

Power Flow Systems has developed a special for a tuned exhaust system for Beech Aero Club members. If one-to-five members sign up for the tuned exhaust system before Nov. 30, they will receive a $500 reduction of the normal $4,290 price. The first 10 customers will also receive a ceramic coated tailpipe without the normal $200 charge. As more members sign up, the price will continue to decline, the company says. Every five additional orders will lower the cost $100 for all who have signed up.

Erickson was selected to provide helicopter transportation services for the U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska. Under the firm, fixed-price purchase order, Erickson’s Bell 212 helicopters will transport USCG Research and Development Center staff and equipment to various locations in the Nome, Alaska, area through the end of August. The work began June 13.

Konect Aviation Oregon will become manager of the McMinnville Municipal Airport in Oregon. The company has operated at the airport since 2009. But Konect Aviation only recently became the fixed-base operator, taking over for the previous operator, Cirrus Aviation, on Jan. 1. Konect Aviation offers scenic tours and charter services, fixed-wing flight training and concierge services. In 2017, the city will renovate the airport’s main runway, 04-22, which will close down for work potentially for the entire summer. Konect will build a new FBO office and terminal building.

Fokker Services B.V. Airplanes [Docket No. FAA-2015-8467; Directorate Identifier 2014-NM-107-AD; Amendment 39-18541; AD 2016-11-14] The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Fokker Services B.V. Model F.28 Mark 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a design review that revealed no controlled bonding provisions are present on a number of critical locations inside the fuel tanks or connected to the walls of the fuel tanks.

Fokker Services B.V. Airplanes [Docket No. FAA-2015-8137; Directorate Identifier 2014-NM-104-AD; Amendment 39-18561; AD 2016-12-12] The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2008-05-18 R1 for certain Fokker Services B.V. Model F.27 Mark 050, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700 airplanes. AD 2008-05-18 R1 required revising the Airworthiness Limitations Section (ALS) of the Instructions for Continued Airworthiness to incorporate new limitations for fuel tank systems.

BRP-Powertrain GmbH & Co KG Reciprocating Engines [Docket No. FAA-2016-2042; Directorate Identifier 2016-NE-02-AD; Amendment 39-18568; AD 2016-13-04] The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain BRP-Powertrain GmbH & Co KG Rotax 912 F2, 912 F3, 912 F4, 912 S2, 912 S3, 912 S4, 914 F2, 914 F3, and 914 F4 reciprocating engines. This AD requires re-identification of the engine model and concurrent modification of the aircraft to indicate the maximum coolant temperature limit.

Airbus Helicopters (Previously Eurocopter France) Helicopters [Docket No. FAA-2014-0105; Directorate Identifier 2008-SW-58-AD; Amendment 39-18562; AD 2016-12-13] The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2000-05-17 and AD 2001-04-12, which apply to Eurocopter France (now Airbus Helicopters) Model EC120B helicopters. AD 2000- 05-17 and AD 2001-04-12 required repetitive visual checks of the engine-to-main gearbox (MGB) coupling tube assembly (coupling tube) for a crack and replacing any cracked tube with an airworthy tube.

Tony Shen has been appointed director of engine services, China, by AJW Engines in order to develop the organization’s engine services across China. Before earning his MBA at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing, Shen served as service business manager of civil aerospace for Rolls-Royce.

Brian Fasano has joined STS Engineering Solutions in Jensen Beach, Florida, as senior director of maintenance programs and reliability. It is a new position for STS, which will allow the company to expand its list of services.

The macroeconomic impact of Brexit is likely the key threat to commercial companies, Cowen and Co. analyst Cai von Rumohr says. “It’s hard to gauge, but [business jets] look the most vulnerable,” von Rumohr wrote in a note June 27 to investors, since demand is sensitive to economic uncertainty and equity market swings.
