Airbus has launched higher-gross-weight versions of the A330-300 and A330-200 in an effort to capture key long-range markets previously outside the aircraft’s range. Airbus Chief Commercial Officer-Customers John Leahy says he already is in discussions with two airlines and one leasing company about an order for the new version, which is offered as an option.
Airbus has ended the conceptual design phase for the Airbus A320NEO and the A319NEO, freezing the basic definition of the aircraft. “We have confirmation of performance, all suppliers are engaged and the financial and market assumptions have been confirmed, too,” says Klaus Roewe, senior VP for the A320NEO family. “We will start to cut metal in the very near term.”

Aveos’s airframe division—after failing to attract a buyer—could be broken up and sold to six companies, while its component business has several interested buyers. The Canadian firm has asked for court approval to break the airframe division into 24 lots and sell them for a total of C$10.8 million ($10.6 million), according to a filing by the court-appointed chief restructuring officer (CRO) put in place after Aveos on March 19 shut down and sought protection under Canada’s Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act.
Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) low-cost medium-haul carrier, Scoot, aims to serve eight overseas destinations by year-end, and may grow its business by expanding increasingly into short-haul markets. CEO Campbell Wilson tells Aviation Week that earlier this year the carrier, which operates Boeing 777s, considered launching services to Jakarta, Indonesia, and Manila, Philippines, but could not get the traffic rights.
