Aviation data-network service provider SITA will modify its ground servers so airlines can request position reports from aircraft via a system already used to communicate with air traffic control (ATC). Nearly 80% of long-haul oceanic aircraft routes are already equipped for automatic dependent surveillance – contract (ADS-C) as part of the future air navigation system (FANS).
