From The Archives: Helo Biz Going Vertical

A Sikorsky S-92 flown by Norsk Helicopters was photographed flying over the North Sea in support of oil platform operations on the cover of the February 27, 2006, issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology. 

In this issue, we published a helicopter-focused feature package in which we reported that the global commercial helicopter business was growing at a modest pace as demand for new aircraft drove sales upward and utilization rates continued to climb. 

But increasing restrictions on airspace use, rising fuel costs, and the specter of user fees threatened to bring the industry to a hover.
