From The Archives: Gates Learjet Series 50 Prototype In Flight Test

Here's a picture story of the Gates Learjet Longhorn 50 series. This jet was the first prototype undergoing a flight test over its Wichita, Kan., base, and it featured on the cover of the June 4, 1979 issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology.

It first flew on Apr. 19, 1979, with a second flight the next day. Gates Learjet has 80 of the Garrett TFE371-3-powered aircraft.
