Gulfstream Aerospace has completed a solar panel installation at its 225,000 ft.2 Mesa Service Center in Arizona to supply 100% of the facility’s electricity needs at peak production.
With the installation, the facility operates with more than 4,000 solar panels. They are expected to produce more than 4 million kWh of electricity in a year—enough to meet yearly demand, Gulfstream says. It is the company’s sixth solar installation across its facilities and the first one in Mesa.
The facility has earned the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
“By continuing to invest in renewable energy technologies at our facilities, Gulfstream is making meaningful progress toward our goal of lowering our environmental footprint,” said Mark Burns, Gulfstream president. “As a sustainable aviation leader, we remain committed to advancing environmental and clean-energy initiatives that support our industry.”
The Mesa Service Center was built to operate with enhanced environmental efficiency through recycled, regional and lower-emissions materials, the use of renewable energy, water consumption reductions, redirection of construction waste to recycling and optimization of overall energy performance, the company says.
This project increases Gulfstream’s total LEED- and Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology-certified footprint to more than 2.6 million ft.2 over 12 facilities.
