A one-day seaplane and amphibious aviation conference is making its debut in Venice, Italy in March to discuss the potential of the growing sector, organizers say.

The March 20 conference, organized by Quaynote Communications and Arena Group Associates, will feature sessions on operations, infrastructure needs, sector economics, sustainability and customer experience.

“Seaplanes and flying boats make an understated mark on the global aerospace landscape, yet way before the eVTOL sector began discussing the last mile,” says Lorna Titley, Quaynote director. “These airframes have been flying the last leg in many a voyage whether for tourism, charter, cargo, medevac or many other civil applications.”

Amphibious aviation is poised for a resurgence with the advent of electric propulsion, new materials, sustainability and operator demand for new airframe types, organizers say.

“This event addresses the connectivity issues that face those living around water by exploring how amphibious aviation can add another vital link to the global air transport network,” says Stacy Giglio, Satcom Direct vice president of marketing.

Well, battery technology will have to change in order to get some decent range. I highly doubt there will be many charging stations out in the bush of Africa nor the wilds of Canada or the back country in Alaska. O.k. maybe on some puddle jumper routes but that is limiting. No, the internal combustion engine is going to rule for at least 30 years if not more. Lithium batteries last longer if one charges them to 80% capacity. Charge to 100% and drive them hard like on takeoff on water and they wear out faster. I expect a battery pack change out on a full sized seaplane will cost a fortune. Gas and kerosene is going to rule for a long time more.
