Gallery: EAA AirVenture’s Lakeside Getaway

Moored at the EAA Seaplane Base was Harbour Air’s DHC-2 eBeaver, which made history in December 2019 as the first all-electric commercial aircraft to take flight, operating from Harbour Air’s terminal on the Fraser River near Vancouver. The original eBeaver was scheduled to participate in the AirVenture flight displays.

Samaritan Aviation, a Phoenix-based Christian nonprofit that provides airmedical support in Papua New Guinea, has extensively modified this Cessna 206 amphibian to operate on the Sepik River in that country. Among changes, it reengined the aircraft with a Continental IO550 engine and added a right-hand door.

Paul Richards, president of Brunswick, Maine-based Clamar Floats briefs pilots on the company’s line of composite floats designed for the experimental aviation market. Nine out of 10 AirCam kit aircraft are equipped with Clamar 2180 floats.

This AirCam kit plane from Lockwood Aircraft Corp. of Sebring, Florida, is equipped with Clamar 2180 amphibious floats. The AirCam can be used by pilots seeking to add an Airplane Multi-Engine Sea rating to an existing Private or Commercial Pilot certificate.

Floatplanes were on prominent display at AirVenture’s main site at Wittman Regional Airport. Float manufacturer Wipaire offered for sale this 1960-vintage Dehavilland DHC-2 Beaver. In 1999, it went through a complete Wipaire Super Beaver restoration and later the Wipaire Boss Beaver Turbine Conversion.
