Clay Lacy Continues Garmin G1000 NXi Upgrades
In July, Clay Lacy Aviation announced the completion of its 10th G1000 NXi upgrade, this one on an Embraer Phenom 100.
The full-service aviation company began offering the upgrades in 2019, around the same time Garmin debuted the NXi.
Now, slightly more than one month after the celebratory 10th installment, Clay Lacy has completed 12 installations with five more proposals currently out at the time of this writing.
As an Embraer Authorized Service Center, these installations have become a large part of Clay Lacy’s maintenance, repair and overhaul customer base. Ed Mirzakhanian, Clay Lacy senior vice president of product support, estimates that about 90% of clients seeking an NXi upgrade are for aircraft outside of Clay Lacy’s managed network of about 140 aircraft. Installations of the G1000 NXi are predominantly on Phenoms or King Air aircraft.
“The G1000 NXi configuration is the result of Garmin continuously upgrading its systems with an even more user friendly and intuitive interface improving situational awareness and capabilities,” says Eddy Diaz, Clay Lacy’s avionics manager.
Some of the upgrades the G1000 NXi has over the standard G1000 include faster processing power that supports faster map rendering, initialized displays within seconds after start-up, the ability for pilots to select visual approaches that provide vertical guidance based on a 3-degree glideslope, surface watch runway monitoring technology, among others.
Installations take one to two days and can be completed by one certified technician. The service is offered predominantly in Clay Lacy’s Southern California facilities at either Van Nuys Airport (VNY), John Wayne Airport (SNA), or McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad/San Diego (KCRQ), however installations are also available at its Waterbury-Oxford Airport facility (OXC) in Oxford, Connecticut. Clay Lacy currently has additional G1000 NXi kits on reserve for any orders that may come in.
Additionally, the company serves as an authorized Garmin dealer with direct access to Garmin field service representatives.
