Case Dismissal Challenges FAA’s Efforts To Govern UAS

A court decision in a lawsuit brought by an unmanned aircraft operator against FAA could make it more difficult for the agency to ban civil UAS use until it can get rules in place. The lawsuit was filed by voluntary search-and-rescue operation Texas EquuSearch after receiving an email from an FAA regional office in February informing the organization that its use of a small unmanned aircraft to assist with searches was “illegal” and should “stop immediately.”

GE And Mahindra To Collaborate On Structures

GE Aviation has signed an agreement to collaborate and possibly produce metallic aerostructures with India-based Mahindra Aerospace, to complement its UK-based composite productions capability. The agreement will look at Mahindra’s potential for producing what it calls “metallic aerostructures for a range of aircraft applications,” to build on the company’s existing expertise in producing aircraft such as the GA8 Airvan, the Australian-designed, single-engine general purpose aircraft.

Embraer Delivers Even Mix Of Airliners, Bizjets

Embraer reported a balanced mix of deliveries in the second quarter as commercial shipments jumped nearly 30% but executive jet business remained flat. Commercial deliveries increased from 22 in second quarter 2013 to 29 in the most recent quarter. Embraer’s 175 led the deliveries at 16. This is up from the single 175 delivered in second-quarter 2013. Embraer had begun delivery of its improved 175 in the second quarter to U.S. carriers Republic Airways, SkyWest and United Airlines. The aircraft incorporates a new wingtip that helps reduce fuel consumption by 6.4%.

Air China Seeks To Merge MRO Operation With Ameco

Air China is again seeking to inject its in-house aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) business into Ameco Beijing, the joint venture that it owns with Lufthansa Technik (LHT), industry officials say. LHT continues to resist the move, partly because it would dilute the German company’s share of Ameco, now 40%, say the officials. Talks in 2011 to combine the two entities ended without an agreement.

Flybe Poised To Decide On Future Of MRO, Training Arms

LONDON — UK-based low-cost carrier Flybe will decide within weeks whether to outsource its Flybe Aviation Services maintenance arm and training activities, carrier executives say. Saad Hammad, who has spearheaded the carrier’s recovery, confirmed the decision will be made by the end of September, which is halfway through the carrier’s financial year.

China Lifts Ban On Foreign Access To Wuxi

The Chinese government has opened Wuxi Shuofang airport to foreign flights, removing a serious restriction on the facility’s growth. Opening of the joint military-civil airport to foreign airlines has been approved by the state council, China’s cabinet, according to the Xinhua news agency. The decision has therefore been made at a remarkably high level.

New Deals Set Stage For Joint IAM-TWU Talks At American
