He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
KLM does not expect to decide which global alliance to join in the immediate future, given the current state of the industry. A spokesman for the airline told The DAILY the exact timing "was very hard to predict." The company stated earlier it wanted to make up its mind sometime in the summer.
Ryanair has not taken ownership of rival buzz, as planned, because the U.K. Office of Fair Trading delayed a decision on approving the deal. The office plans to announce its decision by April 28, but analysts still expect it to approve the deal. Buzz nevertheless stopped operating, as planned, to allow time for the adoption of Ryanair procedures and systems. The Irish no-frills carrier warned it would now take on only 130 of 600 staff, significantly fewer than anticipated.
