He started his journalism career in 1992 as a freelance writer for Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily national newspaper and soon specialised in air transport. Jens joined Aviation Week and Aviation Daily in 2000 as one of the European correspondents. Later his role was expanded to cover international air transport. In 2013 he was named Managing Editor Commercial.
Jens frequently appears on radio and TV to comment on industry matters. In 2003, he received the Hugo Junkers Award of the German aviation press for his coverage of Fairchild Dornier’s bankruptcy. He was named the country’s top travel and air transport writer by the Travel Industry Club three times. Jens graduated from the Munich School of Journalism.
Iberia placed an order for up to 12 Airbus A340-600s. The order comes on top of an earlier agreement to purchase three aircraft of the type due for delivery during the course of this year. The new order consists of five firm commitments and seven options. Iberia plans to replace its fleet of Boeing 747 Classics with the new type and will mainly deploy the aircraft to destinations in South America.
SAS is mulling a bid in the privatization of Lithuanian Airlines. The carrier received the privatization document and began the due diligence process. A spokesman for the airline said, however, it is too early to tell if SAS will proceed with a bid. SAS is in midst of negotiations with its unions to massively change its business model and the way it operates, in hopes of negotiating terms that increase productivity. -JF
