Avic Aircraft has swooped down on Austrian aerospace manufacturer FACC in the first case of a Chinese manufacturer buying a first-tier Western supplier to Airbus and Boeing. The purchase of the company, with its extensive composites expertise, may strengthen the technology base of the Comac C919 narrowbody airliner, for which Avic Aircraft will be a major supplier, although FACC says it will protect its intellectual property.
Malaysia’s AirAsiaX says it will fly to Paris “soon” after securing landing rights at Paris Orly Airport. The long-haul branch of the AirAsia budget airline group already flies from its Kuala Lumpur base to London, Melbourne, Tianjin and other international destinations.
