Japan Airlines has deferred negotiations for investment from American and Delta until after a team of government-appointed experts completes a review of the ailing carrier’s business. The airline hopes to resume the talks after the panel presents its report, which is due by the end of November. Japan Airlines is a member of the oneworld alliance, alongside American. A tie-up with Delta would imply a switch to the SkyTeam alliance by the carrier, Asia’s largest.
Malaysia-based budget airline group AirAsia has deferred delivery of a second batch of eight Airbus A320s. The aircraft are now scheduled to be delivered in 2014 instead of 2011, the airline says. Since AirAsia also deferred in July eight A320s due in 2010, a third of the 48 aircraft it originally contracted to receive in the coming two years have now been delayed. AirAsia is the largest customer for the A320 family, with 175 ordered. Of those, 64 have been accepted.
U.S. regional airline owner Trans States Holdings has broken the sales drought for the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, signing a letter of intent for 50 of the aircraft with options on 50 more. Deliveries will run for five or six years, beginning in 2014, the year in which Mitsubishi Aircraft expects to deliver the first unit to launch customer All Nippon Airways.
