Poll: Which crisis will inflict the greater financial impact on the airline industry in 2020?
LCC flydubai faced “an abrupt interruption” to both its growth and fleet strategy in 2019 as it weathered the effects of the Boeing 737 MAX grounding, the airline said as it published its annual results Mar. 4.
Flydubai no longer had use of 11 MAX 8 and three MAX 9 aircraft from mid-March onward, leading to the cancellation of 19% of its flying schedule. The remainder of its fleet consists of 42 737-800 models; the airline leased in additional 737-800 capacity from Czech carrier Smartwings over the course of the year.
