Wreckage found from missing Air Algerie aircraft
The wreckage of flight AH5017 has been located in Mali near the border of Burkina Faso.
The wreckage of the Boeing MD-83 aircraft “was clearly identified despite its disintegrated state” said the office of the French President in a brief statement.
The wreckage is located near the town of Gossi, and a French military unit is being dispatched to secure the crash site.
Operating with 110 passengers, the MD-83 had departed at 01:17UTC and was due to arrive in Algiers at 05:10UTC. The flight was operated by Air Algerie, which chartered the aircaft from Spain’s Swiftair.
