United Airways launches flight to Dubai

United Airways, a privately held Bangladeshi airline, launched direct flights to Dubai last week from its Dhaka base in Bangladesh.

Chairman and managing director Capt. Tasbirul Ahmed Choudhury said, “United Airways will offer the best services, at competitive prices on all our routes.”

The Dubai route will be operated by a 155-seat MD-83 aircraft and the flight has been offered with a special one way fare at $250 (excluding taxes and surcharges). Initially, the airline will operate to Dubai on Thursdays and Sundays departing Dhaka at 1835 local time.

“United Airways respects hardworking Bangladeshi migrant workers, who earn valuable foreign currency for the country- we want to do something special for them,” he added.

Choudhury said: “We definitely want to survive and increase our fleet, as this is the right time to procure desired aircraft. We are in the process of buying two more MD-83s by the end of this year."

The carrier said it has plans to expand its fleet by adding Boeing 767-300ER by next year to fly to London and other Gulf destinations. It sees the UK and the Gulf as the most important markets for Bangladeshi airlines as half of the travellers who fly abroad go to the GCC or the UK.
