Smart's order for Q400s is confirmed
As reported in Arabian Aerospace on August 1, Bombardier confirmed today that it has sold two Q400 turboprops from Smart Aviation in Egypt
The Cairo-based business jet operator also has options on an additional three Q400 NextGen aircraft.
The value of the firm order is around $62 million at list prices, which could increase to $158 million if all three options are converted to firm orders, says Bombardier.
Smart Aviation is launching scheduled and charter services to complement its corporate aircraft activities throughout the Middle East.
Gary Scott, president Bombardier commercial aircraft, said: "The Q400 NextGen aircraft is optimised for the intra-regional, shorter routes in the expanding North African and Middle Eastern travel market." Wael El-Maadawy, chairman and managing director, Smart Aviation, told Arabian Aerospace in April that "Middle East tourism and business travel are growing steadily and we want to be in a position to meet this growth with efficient, reliable, economical and passenger-friendly aircraft."
According to ACAS Bombardier has booked firm orders for a total of 391 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft, and has delivered 300 .
