Kuwait’s aviation sector is beginning to recover after months of disruption that saw Kuwait International Airport come under attack from Iran. Kuwait Airways announced May 9 a gradual restoration of services from Kuwait International's Terminal 4.
The airline plans to resume flights to 29 destinations as part of a structured, phased recovery plan. Kuwait Airways said the rollout will be carried out in stages and in close coordination with national authorities.
“We are working to gradually raise flights from Kuwait International Airport, in accordance with a phased operational plan, taken into consideration security requirements and continuous coordination with relevant authorities,” the airline said in a statement.
This marks a significant step following an eight-week suspension of commercial air services to and from Kuwait International Airport, which came after the airport was targeted by multiple Iranian drones and missiles. Kuwaiti authorities have not detailed how much damage was inflicted on the airport's infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s LCC Jazeera Airways restarted full operations from Terminal 5 on May 3. During the shutdown, the airline had temporarily relocated its operations to multiple hubs across Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Both Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways say that safety remains the top priority.
Jazeera Airways CEO Barathan Pasupathi says, “Every decision we make is grounded in safety, regulatory compliance and real demand.”
