Royal Jordanian considers Dreamliner compensation
With Boeing's 787 Dreamliner heavily delayed Royal Jordanian Airlines has said it may seek compensation from the US airframer because of the delivery delays for its eight 787, reported Zawya Dow Jones.
"We're working with Boeing to try to mitigate the impact of the delay of the Dreamliners," said the airline’s chief executive Samer Majali. "Compensation is part of that."
The airline has eight 787 aircraft on order that were due for delivery from the fourth quarter of 2010, but Majali said the delivery schedule has been pushed back by three years.
"The delay has caused a lot of upset to our plans," he added.
Earlier this month, Royal Jordanian said its first-quarter net loss widened to 8.5 million Jordanian dinars ($12 million) from JOD4.4 million a year earlier.
Majali said the fourth quarter of 2008 and the first quarter of 2009 had been "weak" for the carrier, but said he expected to compensate for the losses in the second and third quarters of the fiscal year.
"The second quarter is looking better and the third quarter is looking good," he said.
Last year, the carrier had planned to achieve 17% growth, but achieved 15%.
"We're looking at getting as close as possible to these levels this year so that would mean zero growth," he said.
