Poll: Will the global civil aviation industry be able to effectively contain the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus?

Major gateways around Asia are taking additional precautions after an unidentified pneumonia broke out in Wuhan, China early this year.

Airports are taking no chances, even though the virus has not yet been transmitted via human contact. Airports in Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand have begun monitoring passengers’ temperatures and are taking other preventive measures.

Singapore Changi Airport has also started active temperature screening of passengers arriving from Wuhan. The screening method was first developed in Singapore during the 2003 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) where the airport modified infrared heat sensors to monitor the body temperature of arriving passengers.
