LOT Polish Airlines has promoted CCO Michal Fijoł to the position of president and CEO, it was announced June 19.
Fijoł had been CCO at LOT for seven years. He succeeds Rafal Milczarski, who left the company in December.
In a first statement, Fijoł said that his experience and cooperation with the LOT team “will bring nothing but good results and strengthen the position of the national carrier not only in the Polish market but also in foreign markets of crucial importance to us.”
In making the announcement, LOT’s supervisory board also said it was dismissing CFO Paweł Rozkrut from his position.
LOT was one of Europe’s fastest-growing airlines before the COVID pandemic—some analysts say the growth was too fast—but it struggled through the crisis despite government financial support of some €650 million ($690 million). In 2021, under pressure to cut costs, the Star Alliance airline pulled out of a plan to buy German leisure carrier Condor.
According to Aviation Week Network's Fleet Discovery, LOT operates a fleet of six Boeing 737-800s, 11 737 MAX 8s, 15 787-8/9s, 19 Embraer E170/175s and 22 E190/195s. One E195 remains in storage.
