Engine blowout behind IranAir run off?
An Iran Air A300 aircraft slid off the runway into the snow as it was about to leave Stockholm for Tehran on Saturday.
None of the 173 people, including 149 passengers, onboard Flight 762 were hurt and Arlanda Airport spokesman, Jan Lindqvist, said the plane had not been damaged as it was moving slowly.
"Some 100, 150 meters out on the runway (the plane) made a very slow turn and got stuck in the snow on the side of the runway," he was quoted by AFP as saying.
The incident caused no major delays at Arlanda as the airport's two other runways were kept open.
Video images of the runway run-off seen by Arabian Aerosapce indicates that the aircraft suffered a technical problem with its left-hand engine shortly after starting its take-off roll.
The images clearly show a brief burst of flame from the left-hand General Electric CF6 engine.
This blow out would result in a reduction of thrust on the left side and a yaw to the left, causing the A300 to veer off the runway into the snow.
Swedish air accident investigators have opened an inquiry into the event.
