E190-E2 has completed its maiden flight
The Embraer E190-E2 jet has completed its maiden flight ahead of schedule, with the flight planned for the second half of the year.
The aircraft took off from Embraer’s facility in São José dos Campos and achieved a flight time of three hours and 20 minutes, marking the start of the certification progress for the E190-E2, with the aircraft due to entre service in 2018.
“Watching the first E190-E2 take to the skies means we are paving the way for a bright future in commercial aviation. I’m certain that the market will show even greater interest not only for E190-E2, but also for the other E2s as well,” said Paulo Cesar Silva, president and CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation.
The flight allowed for the evaluation of aircraft handling and performance, with the crew analysing flight parameters, such as speed, altitude and landing gear retraction.
“We were able to significantly open the flight envelope by flying at mach 0.82, climbing to 41,000 feet and retracting the landing gear and flaps, and engaging the fly-by-wire in normal mode,” said the aircraft’s pilot, Captain Louzada.
The aircraft is the first of four prototypes to be used in the certification programme.
