Astral Aviation forced to change renewal plans

Astral Aviation has released its revised fleet renewal plans, planning to replace a DC-9-30(F) and B727-200(F) with B737-300(F)s.

CEO of Astral Aviation Sanjeev Gadhia told ch-aviation that as global integrators are rapidly buying up B737-400(F)s, Astral has been forced to change and order the B737-400(F) instead.
Gadhia explained that the change of plan wont cause too much of an issue for Astral: “We have performed a very detailed evaluation based on the routes we wish to fly and have found that the B737-300 is more cost-effective compared to the -400. We are already in talks with three airlines about the possible acquisition of two aircraft over the next 3 to 6 months."
Astral plans to open routes to Kinshasa N’Djili, Lubumbashi, Bazzaville, Lusaka and Ndola.
Acquiring new freighters will assist Astral in its plans to expand across Africa, with one aircraft being based in Lagos later this year and two more based in either Johannesburg O.R. Tambo or Durban King Shaka at the start of next year.
