Wizz adds Spanish flights from Poland

Wizz Air plans to launch two new services linking Poland with Spain. From April 24, the budget carrier will operate new links from Warsaw to Madrid and from Gdansk to Barcelona. Both routes will be operated on a twice weekly rotation with A320 aircraft.

Between Madrid and Warsaw, Iberia operates a 5x weekly A320 aircraft and LOT operates a 7x weekly E-175. Over 100,000 passengers have flown the route in the last 12 months with LOT and Iberia accounting for 68% of all flown pax, with significant indirect traffic via Zurich and Munich, with Swiss and Lufthansa. Wizz will be the first LCC on the route providing low fare competition to the two alliance carriers.

Between Gdansk and Barcelona, there is no scheduled service however IATA BSP data has tracked over 5,000 flown passengers. Wizz will be confident that it will stimulate the market with new direct and low fare service.
