What's On The Horizon For: Vienna Airport

Vienna International Airport (VIE), an exhibitor at Routes World 2023 in Istanbul and a Routes 360 member, expects to hit more than 28.5 million passengers in 2023 as the post-pandemic recovery continues.

"Short-term, our main aim would be to establish ourselves around 30 million passengers," Vienna Airport Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger says.

"Our record year was 2019 with 31.7 million passengers. To us it’s important that we stay on the level around 30 million passengers.”

Having well-established routes across Europe and the Middle East, Jäger says the airport aspires to recover more within the East Asia market and develop growth across North America within the next two years.

Touching on recent route successes, Jäger says: “Middle East is doing extremely well. We have some new routes to Saudi Arabia from Wizz Air.

"North America also does very well, mainly driven by Austrian Airlines and Air Canada. Southern Europe has also been exploding this summer, so overall we are very happy, and we are looking at a good winter.”

Seeking to enhance connectivity from Vienna Airport, the organization shares underserved and unserved route opportunities through its Routes 360 membership.
