United Airlines next year will open seasonal service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Faro Airport (FAO) in Portugal, which becomes a new point in the U.S. carrier’s network.

The route will kick off on May 24, 2024, as part of United’s summer 2024 transatlantic schedule, which will see the carrier operate service between the U.S. and 38 destinations across the Atlantic.

The EWR-FAO route will be flown 4X-weekly with a Boeing 757-200. United currently flies year-round between EWR and Portugal's capital, Lisbon.

From May 23, 2024, United will resume seasonal service between EWR and Reykjavik, Iceland, a route that was last flown in summer 2022, but which was dropped for summer 2023. The service will be flown daily in summer 2024 with a 757-200.

United will also add a second daily frequency between EWR and Brussels starting March 30, 2024, with a 757-200, as well as a second daily frequency between Washington Dulles and Rome Fiumicino commencing May 23 using a 767-300.

"United has the most flights to the most destinations across the Atlantic, and we're now giving our customers even more flexibility and choice," United Senior Vice President for Global Network Planning and Alliances Patrick Quayle says in a statement. "Whether customers are looking to travel during peak season or shoulder season … the scope and scale of our network makes United the easy choice for transatlantic travel."
