Royal Jordanian launched flights between Amman and Vienna. The route, exclusive to the airline, will be flown 4X-weekly with an Airbus A321neo aircraft. U.S. regional carrier SkyWest Airlines was selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to operate subsidized Essential Air Service (EAS) flights from Canyonlands Regional Airport (CNY) in Moab, Utah, to two major hubs. Starting Oct. 1, SkyWest will fly a total of 12 weekly flights to Denver International Airport (DEN) and Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). DOT’s order did not break down the split of frequencies. The EAS contract lasts through Sept. 30, 2030. SkyWest will operate as Delta Express to SLC and as United Express to DEN. SkyWest beat out a number of carriers competing for the EAS contract, including incumbent Contour Airlines. DOT said SkyWest’s association with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines “will provide Moab passengers with significant, well-timed connections to the national air transportation system.” Contour’s EAS flights from CNY, operated since 2024, were to DEN and Phoenix. The SkyWest services will be operated with 50-seat CRJ-200 or CRJ-500 aircraft. DOT subsidies paid to SkyWest over the four years will total more than $22.5 million. “SkyWest received strong support from civic officials and the local community, included a plan to market its services to the community, and has requested a subsidy amount that falls in the lower range of the competitive bids in this proceeding,” DOT said.
